Ninja Gaiden Atari Lynx 1990

Ninja Gaiden was ported to Atari’s Lynx, a less success full handheld gaming system going head to head with Nintendo’s GameBoy. Though the Lynx was technical superior to the GamBoy, capable of displaying beautiful colored graphics it never became a great success for Atari. There were three major problems with the Lynx. It was supposed to be a portable gaming system, but when you had to reserve an extra seat on the airplane if you wanted to kill off some time with some “portable” gaming action while traveling between Japan and New York the whole portable scam by Atari started to shine through. The other problem was the Lynx hunger for raw battery power. It’s quite possible that it would be cheaper from a consumer’s stand point if Atari made the Lynx nuclear powered, as it could easily eat through tens of dollars worth of batteries in one day. The third and biggest problem with the Lynx was its lack of good games, or to be more accurate the lack any game good or bad. Though far from the being amongst the better in the series, Ninja Gaiden was maybe on of the few must have titles for the Atari Lynx. Rather than a port of the brilliant NES version, Lynx owners got a single player version of the original Arcade game. In fact this is the only port to a home system of the original Arcade game, which in it self makes this game interesting enough to hunt down.
