Ninja Gaiden Arcade 1988

The Game that started it all, though there are later Ninja Gaiden games that are better known, this game still holds a special place in many gamers hearts. The first Ninja Guiden is quite different to the later versions of the game, instead of the side-scrolling action platformer style of plat, this game was much more like Final Fight with a two player simultaneous beat-em-up gameplay. In fact this is the only Ninja Gaiden game that lets two players fight alongside each other. You could do multi hit combos, which was quite easy to perform, a good dose of button bashing would do fine. You also had a body toss, the Phoenix Backflip, and sword power-up at your disposal. The joystick also had a button that could be pressed to grab onto overhanging bars and then kick off to attack your enemies, in fact quite innovative at that time. Other than this I can mention that this game has probably the most infamous "Continue?" screens in the history gaming. As the clock ticks down from 10, a saw blade is lowered down towards your chest, while your character screams and shakes in panic, and finally the screen went all red. Not the best game in the series, but of course holds an important place in the history of Ninja Gaiden as the grand daddy.
